I found your brilliant podcast yesterday and had good fun listening to it for many hours. The Vegemite episode made me think about my first contact with this phenomenally strong paste, supposed to be a spread.
Although I live in New Zealand, it’s an enjoyment for me to become acquainted with the different vernaculars of the Australian-bred people, the cultural differences and peculiarities. I really have to book a flight 😉

Thank you very much they are very interesting, I would like to visit Australia, Sidney, Melbourne , Alice’s Spring, Perth and Tasmania too…one of my High School friends is married to an aussie and live now at Wagga-Wagga (I love this name it is like Wala-Wala in the US state of Washington near Seattle).

Australian English is very interesting , nor British, nor American, but strine is not always so easy to understand(strine= strange?) it is like the “joual”the French canadian speaking for a standard french, swiss or belgian listener.

I love your shows, then the more concerned I became to have found out that your show ends cut blind, with no goodbye or a sign of that you would expect it end.
just in the middle of the season with greatest episodes…

Can any one say, that there is a continuation under another podcast elsewhere? Are you safe and alive, or what lost? outback?

Why not have a quick and dirty video segment in your show? My thinking is that many listeners would benefit from seeing a minute of Australia with your eyes. These days I’m trying to learn more about the country and downloading tons of documentaries, but all of them are about spiders, pandas and sharks with all that classical music in the background.

What I would really appreciate is the city view as is in a way the in-/outsider sees it. You know, one minute of the “pipe”, one minute of the supermarket, one minute of a bus stop etc, all with natural sounds and occasional comments. It’s all limited by your imagination and made the right way, can be a pearl.

I’m sure I will be doing the same for my fellow immigrants as I get there, because I understand the need behind it extremely well. It’s a distant world that is developing outside the common timescale. I would love it! 🙂

Certainly, a simple digital cam would do and you even don’t need to talk if you aren’t happy with it. It’s that one picture is worth a million of words, and 1800 pictures are virtually priceless. Hope you like the idea!

BTW, can’t find the donation box anywhere. Is it overflown and you guys are hiding it under the bed?

I was listening to this podcast on my way to work today, and I was laughing so crazy and loudly that people would look at me strangely. Thank you for showing what true Aussie accent is, and for such a fun! Keep on going with the podcast, and I vote for more Talk’n Stralian shows, when you give examples of Aussie accent.

Hearing Kevins attempts to seduce an Australian woman had me in tears of laughter. Being an Australian female myself, I know a good thing when I hear it, apart from swooning madly (your seduction techniques are up there with casanova Kevin -maybe, a little, okay not.) however I was laughing quite hard.

Want to know the best kept secret to getting points with an Australian woman? Make her laugh, guareenteed success!

Steve was right about having more success using your own accent, Canadian is quite popular but I believe Irish/Scottish are the reigning champions in regards to having an Aussie female fanbase.

As for the frog in a sock business, very amusing but really random. I have no idea what in-the-middle-of-nowhere pub you heard that, but its definatly a winner.

John seems to have his doubts about the Aussies’ artistic abilities in this week’s show – maybe while Kevin’s investigating visual art he could tackle other key areas of achievement in a follow-up podcast… I’d suggest starting with Classical Music (e.g. Kylie, Rolf Harris), or Drama and Theatre (“Neighbours”)!

An amusing commentary on an Aussie icon. One of the most interesting trivial facts about the painting was that the “rouseabout” (the person who cleans up as shearing takes place) was a girl, not a boy, paid to pose, who probably only died a few years ago (still alive in the seventies/eighties).

I spent the first 11 years of my life on a sheep / cattle station and was amused at your terminology 🙂 Sheep are definitely shorn, not shaved!!!

Shearing was analysed by experts along with several other manual skills, and deemed to be the hardest of all. Very tough on backs and kidneys, with men often spent by about 45-50.

An interesting era in Aussie history indeed – The shearers’ strike, together with the founding of the labor party in Barcaldine under the “Tree of Knowledge” recently poisoned to death.

At around the same time the sinking of the “SS Rodney” a paddle steamer carrying scab labour up the Darling River.

You really had me wondering about the significance of the painting, when it really is at one level, only a snapshot of a factory!

It will remain a favourite, along with “Bail up”, and many other pieces by Tom Roberts’ fellow “Heidleberg School” artists such as Frederick McCubbin.

Listened to this as my first taste of your podcasts, and will be sampling more!

I was just on the train off to work when I heard your last podcast, and hell, I was laughing like a frog in a sock (dunno if that’s correct) People slowly sarted to look at me like I’m some sort of lunny maniac. I mean after all it was monday morning and who in their right mind would be in such good mood monday mornings. Thanx guy’s you really made my day for 15 min. …. It all changed when I entered the office, I was then put down to earth that after all it was A monday morning.

As well, for some Canadian boy in Australia, wouldn’t it be more seductive for an Australian girl to hear a Canadian accent instead of some comical attempt at an Australian one? Kev, tell me, Do Australians think Canadian accents are sexy? I can tell you that Australian accents are quite popular here in Canada… an Australian here would be quite successful, knowhatimeanmate…? 🙂

I just wanted to thank you for mentioning my mail in your show…I was just in the train when I was listening to it. And as you mentioned my mail I just felt like a fabulous person and I probably had a big smile all over my face and the guy sitting in front of me well (at the look of his face I could tell he didn’t now what I’m smilling about) I guess he felt a bit uncomfortable.

The Kingswood is a hugely famous car in Australian folklore.. Try googling an old 70’s/80’s show called “Kingswood Country”.

First of all, I’d like to mention that I’m not Australian neither British nor American. So therefore English isn’t my mother tongue. Don’t want to say that there aren’t any other nations speaking English. But anyway I’m Swiss, and just want to make up for all the spelling and grammatical mistakes that are due to follow 😉
So both of you can be proud that among all the crap spread over the net, your show has reached the ears of a miniature audience (me;-) in a little neutral country in the middle of Europe but still not part of Europe.
So what to say!!! I’m 23 and an attentive listener of your show. This is out of two reasons: first it helps me to keep up with my English and 2ndly because 3 years ago I was privileged to go to Australia. I really had a great time down there and you two just remind me a bit of what it is like being down there. On top of all your show is recorded in Melbourne and this was just the best city I went to in Australia. I guess this is for the fact that it’s not too big…so a Swiss-guy doesn’t get lost that easy. I was so thrilled by Melbourne because of all the variety and the numbers of cultural happenings (exmpl. Square Beats or Sounds on the Fed.Square).
I can’t wait to come to Melbourne again, but for the moment I’m fully occupied with my studies Hospitality & Catering, here I’d like to mention the latest show were you talk about the holly Jamie….I just feel the same way : A mixture of admiration, jealousy and some sort of deep disgust.
Any way….Thanx for entertaining me on my way to school keep up to good work 🙂

I’ll have to check out some Canadian-style bar trivia next time I’m in town…

I will say though, Kevin, I don’t know where in Montreal you were, but there are indeed bars there (or used to be.. this was several years ago) where they have trivia games, with each table playing on a wireless device that they use to enter their answers.

Now, I wonder if the Beer Store here in Ottawa will sell any of these Australian beers so I can try them (they’ll have Foster’s for sure, and since John liked it so much, maybe it’s not bad)
