Hey you two,
as an old Aussie that moved away from home and went to live in the old country,
not mine but probably somebodies, I think your show is realy great.
I think the idea from Aleksey is a great idea, making it might even be easier than making the audio cast, but apart from that if your hard up on ideas then as an audio cast how about just taking the Sunday and rubbish on some current affairs, I'd also be interested in the opinion of some white australian Immigrants on what's happening in Australia. :P
Any way, get your finger out and do another show mate! :)

Cheers

Hey guys, don't complain. It's great having Christmas celebrations in the sun. Here on Anglesey, North Wales we have to endure cold and icy winds, though today, as I write this, it is really warm and sunny:)
Good moment to go down to the beach and walk along the lovely coast.

Hello,
I'm French, spending a year in Melbourne. I've just discovered your podcasts. My favourite is this "how to survive a Dhark attack". It's so fool of "yes sens" rather than non sens.
Have you ever tried to talk about te flies in Australia ? I'm sure you would learn a lot from that super website below. It tells you all about the flies and why they are so obsessed by getting into your nose ! I love it !
http://www.viacorp.com/flybook/fulltext.html
Waiting for your new podcasts !
Sincerely yours.

Hey guys! Here's an idea for you.

Why not have a quick and dirty video segment in your show? My thinking is that many listeners would benefit from seeing a minute of Australia with your eyes. These days I'm trying to learn more about the country and downloading tons of documentaries, but all of them are about spiders, pandas and sharks with all that classical music in the background.

What I would really appreciate is the city view as is in a way the in-/outsider sees it. You know, one minute of the "pipe", one minute of the supermarket, one minute of a bus stop etc, all with natural sounds and occasional comments. It's all limited by your imagination and made the right way, can be a pearl.

I'm sure I will be doing the same for my fellow immigrants as I get there, because I understand the need behind it extremely well. It's a distant world that is developing outside the common timescale. I would love it! :)

Certainly, a simple digital cam would do and you even don't need to talk if you aren't happy with it. It's that one picture is worth a million of words, and 1800 pictures are virtually priceless. Hope you like the idea!

BTW, can't find the donation box anywhere. Is it overflown and you guys are hiding it under the bed?

Hi there!

I was listening to this podcast on my way to work today, and I was laughing so crazy and loudly that people would look at me strangely. Thank you for showing what true Aussie accent is, and for such a fun! Keep on going with the podcast, and I vote for more Talk’n Stralian shows, when you give examples of Aussie accent.

Hey guys, glad to hear how your respective Christmas's turned out. Kev, don't worry that your Aussie Christmas was ruined by bizarre weather. As I mentioned, here in Canada, it has been an insane winter. Can you believe that here in Ottawa, we haven't really had any snow that has stayed on the ground yet! Here it is, the middle of January, and the lawns are green. Needless to say, our northern hemispheric Christmas, at least in this part of the world, was quite blah. No snow, no ice, no "Jack Frost nipping at your nose".. quite the contrary. I think it was 5 (yes, 5) on Christmas Day. All those Christmas songs about winter weather ("let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!") were quite bizarre to hear when you looked out the window and saw nothing of the sort.

You forgot that Christmas that our family had Christmas on the Beach at Newcastle. We had a picnic dinner, but it was so blasted windy that we ate it and went back home!! Guess it was rather forgetable after all ;-)

Well I'm looking forward to seeing who had the better Christmas, either the traditional European one or the Aussie "Chrissie on the beach" one.

Anyway Kev, don't feel blue about not having a white Christmas. None of us in Canada had one either... it's been eerily warm. I think it was 5 on Christmas Day, not a snowflake to be seen...

Oh my, I don't know how I found this site but I am ever-so glad I did.

Hearing Kevins attempts to seduce an Australian woman had me in tears of laughter. Being an Australian female myself, I know a good thing when I hear it, apart from swooning madly (your seduction techniques are up there with casanova Kevin -maybe, a little, okay not.) however I was laughing quite hard.

Want to know the best kept secret to getting points with an Australian woman? Make her laugh, guareenteed success!

Steve was right about having more success using your own accent, Canadian is quite popular but I believe Irish/Scottish are the reigning champions in regards to having an Aussie female fanbase.

Cheers for the entertainment!
As for the frog in a sock business, very amusing but really random. I have no idea what in-the-middle-of-nowhere pub you heard that, but its definatly a winner.

Hey guys, enjoying the podcasts. Practicing my 'Stralian already for a move to Victoria next year.

John seems to have his doubts about the Aussies' artistic abilities in this week's show - maybe while Kevin's investigating visual art he could tackle other key areas of achievement in a follow-up podcast... I'd suggest starting with Classical Music (e.g. Kylie, Rolf Harris), or Drama and Theatre ("Neighbours")!

Keep up the good work on the show!

An amusing commentary on an Aussie icon. One of the most interesting trivial facts about the painting was that the "rouseabout" (the person who cleans up as shearing takes place) was a girl, not a boy, paid to pose, who probably only died a few years ago (still alive in the seventies/eighties).

I spent the first 11 years of my life on a sheep / cattle station and was amused at your terminology :) Sheep are definitely shorn, not shaved!!!

Shearing was analysed by experts along with several other manual skills, and deemed to be the hardest of all. Very tough on backs and kidneys, with men often spent by about 45-50.

An interesting era in Aussie history indeed - The shearers' strike, together with the founding of the labor party in Barcaldine under the "Tree of Knowledge" recently poisoned to death.

At around the same time the sinking of the "SS Rodney" a paddle steamer carrying scab labour up the Darling River.

You really had me wondering about the significance of the painting, when it really is at one level, only a snapshot of a factory!

It will remain a favourite, along with "Bail up", and many other pieces by Tom Roberts' fellow "Heidleberg School" artists such as Frederick McCubbin.

Listened to this as my first taste of your podcasts, and will be sampling more!

Hey Guy's

I was just on the train off to work when I heard your last podcast, and hell, I was laughing like a frog in a sock (dunno if that's correct) People slowly sarted to look at me like I'm some sort of lunny maniac. I mean after all it was monday morning and who in their right mind would be in such good mood monday mornings. Thanx guy's you really made my day for 15 min. .... It all changed when I entered the office, I was then put down to earth that after all it was A monday morning.

Hey guys. Quite entertaining to hear Kev's attempts at an Aussie accent. Where on earth does one hear such a strong accent that John is teaching Kev? I listen to a few triple j podcasts (like "Hack") and nobody speaks like this.. maybe on some sheep station in the outback? Or on the set of Kath and Kim? :) [possible show topic?]

As well, for some Canadian boy in Australia, wouldn't it be more seductive for an Australian girl to hear a Canadian accent instead of some comical attempt at an Australian one? Kev, tell me, Do Australians think Canadian accents are sexy? I can tell you that Australian accents are quite popular here in Canada... an Australian here would be quite successful, knowhatimeanmate...? :)

Keep up the good work, guys.

Russell Crowe says he is getting too old to be an action hero? I didn't see that one coming. He's an awesome action hero in his movies. Hope this doesn't mean he is going to stop being in those type of films.

Hi ya guys! Ayres Rock such a fantastic place! I've been there myself.

Unfortunately it's not the world's biggest monolith - that is in Western Australia, and is twice as big as Ayres Rock.

-- quote
Mount Augustus National Park in Western Australia, 852 km north of Perth, is based around the largest monolith in the world called Burringurrah but commonly known as Mount Augustus .

Burringurrah as it is known by the local Wadjari Aboriginal people, stands 858 metres above the surrounding plain, 1105 metres above sea level and covers 47.95 km².

Hey Guy's

I just wanted to thank you for mentioning my mail in your show...I was just in the train when I was listening to it. And as you mentioned my mail I just felt like a fabulous person and I probably had a big smile all over my face and the guy sitting in front of me well (at the look of his face I could tell he didn't now what I'm smilling about) I guess he felt a bit uncomfortable.

Ok guys keep doing your podcast

Ouch Ouch Ouch!.. I love you guys and your weird take on Aussie life, but people living here now should now about the fabulous and extremely dangerous job that the Australian SAS (Special Forces) are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are very much involved in the "shooting" and have been involved in several heavy firefights and skirmishes over there.

Thanks for the 'shout-out' on your show. Just wanted to share that I've just seen the 'Where the bloody hell are ya' tourism ad.

Good to see even us sensitive Brits can handle the odd rude word

Vale Steve Irwin!

It's a pity you were often appreciated more overseas than in your own country.

If only all of us had a tenth of his enthusiasm for life, the world would be a better place.

I was on Wikipedia looking at Steve Irwin info (in reaction to his untimely passing) and I came across this flash cartoon.
Apparently the astronaut was a thinly veiled parody of Steve Irwin.

The Aussie accent of the astronaut is as bad as Kev's.... I recommend turning the subtitles on. Note the name of the spacecraft: the Fair Dinkum. :)

G'day guys!

That picture is of a Holden Kingswood. The Holden family car released before the Commodore ..

The Kingswood is a hugely famous car in Australian folklore.. Try googling an old 70's/80's show called "Kingswood Country".

You guys! Sheesh..

You don't say "Can I buy", You'd say

"G'day mate, I'll have ...." etc...

ie

"G'day mate, I'll have a loaf of tip top etc"..

No wuckers .. (Short for "no wucking furries").. If you really want to be an Aussie, you'd shorten it to "No wuckers"

(By the way, Dropbears! You *MUST* do a podcast about these)

Hey John and Kevin!!!

First of all, I’d like to mention that I’m not Australian neither British nor American. So therefore English isn’t my mother tongue. Don’t want to say that there aren’t any other nations speaking English. But anyway I’m Swiss, and just want to make up for all the spelling and grammatical mistakes that are due to follow ;-)
So both of you can be proud that among all the crap spread over the net, your show has reached the ears of a miniature audience (me;-) in a little neutral country in the middle of Europe but still not part of Europe.
So what to say!!! I’m 23 and an attentive listener of your show. This is out of two reasons: first it helps me to keep up with my English and 2ndly because 3 years ago I was privileged to go to Australia. I really had a great time down there and you two just remind me a bit of what it is like being down there. On top of all your show is recorded in Melbourne and this was just the best city I went to in Australia. I guess this is for the fact that it’s not too big…so a Swiss-guy doesn’t get lost that easy. I was so thrilled by Melbourne because of all the variety and the numbers of cultural happenings (exmpl. Square Beats or Sounds on the Fed.Square).
I can’t wait to come to Melbourne again, but for the moment I’m fully occupied with my studies Hospitality & Catering, here I’d like to mention the latest show were you talk about the holly Jamie….I just feel the same way : A mixture of admiration, jealousy and some sort of deep disgust.
Any way….Thanx for entertaining me on my way to school keep up to good work :-)
Greets from the land of cows, chocolate, expensive Watches and Mafia Bank accounts!!!

John: You think *you* hate Jamie Oliver for being a year older than you but having accomplished so much? How do you think I feel? He's 5 years *younger* than me! Anyway, don't feel too badly... at least you have a global audience with your podcast. That's more than a lot of people can say. By the way, is there a way with the podcast distribution system you use to find out just where your listeners are?

Don't worry Kevin, I'll be there to help you with your Strine. Wow we have got a lot of comments for this episode, haven't we? I suppose that must be a good thing. How's the new episode going by the way? These folks must be dying to hear it. Oh yeah the holiday in Uluru way mad fun and I can't wait to talk about it. I'll put a post up on my blog, in a bit, about the camel ride I had with the Korean girl who played her iPod the whole time. Heck I might even talk about it in an upcoming episode.

Oh yeah check out this link:

Some sad old Russell Crowe fan site found our interview with my best mate Russell and they refuse to believe that it is real. My god, people are just so cynical aren't they? I love Russell and he loves me. We drink beer together all the time.

Yes, more "Talkin' Strine" please. Although Kev does need some practice. His Aussie accent attempts are truly awful, yet oddly entertaining.

I'd write something if I was confident that it was actually going to be read.. hehe

I will say though, Kevin, I don't know where in Montreal you were, but there are indeed bars there (or used to be.. this was several years ago) where they have trivia games, with each table playing on a wireless device that they use to enter their answers.

Now, I wonder if the Beer Store here in Ottawa will sell any of these Australian beers so I can try them (they'll have Foster's for sure, and since John liked it so much, maybe it's not bad)

Hey dudes, I just wanted to write and say that your shows kicks huge fat butt. The biggest fattest arse you've ever seen, well, that is how much butt you kick.
Keep the shows coming, listen to my show if you get a chance... actually, forget it.. dont lsten to my show, it's crap.

Anyway, Emily and Aleksey need to start living a more fulfilling life, stop criticising good ol' Aussie podcasters (even though one guy is a Canuck and one is a Leprachaun).
The Russel Crowe skit was my favourite.. because Russel Crowe is a dick. I don't think I like him..... wait.. nope.. I don't.

Oh well... gotta go... (what sort of last name is TWATSON?)

Hey guys! Informative as usual. I would point out one small correction... In the second name of Anna Pavlova the stress in one the first syllable. Not "Pav'lova", but "'Pavlova". I know you are free to pronounce it as you like, but probably it would be interesting for you to know. It grates on the ear heavily when you say it your way.

And I don't want to rub Emily the wrong way, but the Russell Crowe inerview was something. It took me couple of sentenses to make out who's behind the mask, but it only added to the play and showed that you weren't that serious about outlaughing the actor. Emily, you take it too serious, I guess. Perhaps, even more serious than Russ would if he heard this.

That's a pretty lame imitation of Russell Crowe, I have to say. Since when is he some gay guy who talks in whispers?

And I don't know where your perception of Russell Crowe comes from either. He's very highly praised and has been honored by various awards groups and critics alike, but he's never been in the habit of tooting his own horn. However, as Ali used to say, it's not bragging if you can back it up. But Russ doesn't even brag. Check here, though - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000128/awards for the scoreboard.

And Russell has some very old and loyal friends in his band dating back to his post high school days. The media doesn't mention them, but that doesn't mean Russ isn't a loyal friend.

Oh my, I've just finished listening to your latest episode and ... admittedly, you guys are great. Your show is certainly on the list of those most wonderful things I've ever faced in my life. "The Crocodile Situation" made me nearly fall off my chair under the table. Great stuff... I'm building a solid archive of your shows for the future generations of Alekseys and Kates as an example of the healthy humor and intelligence. I'm totally sincere with you right now. ;)

Keep up this exciting work and Thanks!

Hello!
I just found your podcast today and I am happy to say it has been my favorite on anything having to do with Australia so far! My fiance and I are looking to migrate to the Melbourne area sometime soon and one of the things most interesting us is Australian culture seeing as we are soon to be living in it! I have recommended your podcast to many friends who are also looking into migrating, all have found your show highly enjoyable (and relaxed us to the risk of culture shock). However my fiance and I are wondering if there would be any possibility of sharing some of your experiences in migrating to Australia, seeing as alot of us are facing it soon enough. Thanks again for a great podcast, I look forward to the next!

                                                                       Sincerely,
                                                                                     Josh and Theresa Rinker

G'Day from a West Aussie listener. Love your take on Australia, its people and culture even though I'm born and bred here. It's good to hear how people from other countries view us. Who knows, I might even learn something about Australia as well.

Your interpretation of Waltzing Matilda had me in stitches (the other pruners on the vineyard I'm working on kept giving me funny looks!). I even started trying to come up with some of my own interpretations of other Aussie songs/ballards (none of which are as funny as yours though).

Thanks for a great podcast. Hope ya keep em coming.

G´day mates.

In one of your podcast you wonder if ever someone from Germany will listen to one of your podcast. Well - here i am. And I listen to all of them. You guys really make my day, when I walk to work each morning with my iPod. It´s just like being on a little holiday in my favourite country again.

I have been to Australia for three months this year and since I am back in Germany i bloody miss it!! I am reading books about how to migrate to Australia but I´ve soon realized, that you don´t need a german journalist (me) or a banker (my boyfriend) in Australia. It`s a shame.

I have some questions about Australia - maybe you can answer them in your podcast. When I was there I really wondered, why so many young people go to the army. They seem to love it - even the girls. In Germany the army is like a big penalty and whoever has some brain tries to avoid it and cares for old people in a hospital for a year instead. When I asked the young Aussies they just could not answer my question because for them its the normal thing. Maybe the two of you, non-Australians, have already found an answer. Is it a historical thing?

And a second question: Everyone who comes to Australia loves the people there. They are so helpful, welcoming and open-minded. And immediately you are their mate. But I wonder: How long does it take to make a really close friend in Australia? You know, someone to share your secrets and worries with - oh, i forgot - the Australians have NO WORRIES :-)

That's it for today. I am looking forward to your answers. And I don´t mind if you try to immitate my German accent, when you read my e-mail. I know it´s a horrible accent... :-)

Have a look at my and my boyfriends podcast. Maybe someone can translate it for you: http://paarweise.podspot.de/
